I haven't posted anything for a long time but I think today is a good day to start.
Uncharted 4 was released today with rave reviews.  I'm proud to have had a hand in creating the last chapter of the Uncharted series, with such a talented team of artists at Naughty Dog.
Congrats everyone!!!

Now it's time to play the game!!!

Pursue Your Dreams

My mom found a picture of me that I haven't seen in years!  I think I was 11 here.  This was part of our homework.  Our assignment was to make a sentence that revealed something about ourselves for each letter of our first names.

Pursue Your Dreams

Creating art was something that always I loved to do.  I'm glad I continued my path of being an artist. There was time where I fell off that path and hated what I was doing and where it was leading me in life.  I realized that the one thing that always made me the happiest was when I was creating and drawing.   I went back to school, made a lot of sacrifices, and worked extremely hard but it has really paid off.
The saying, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life," is really true.   I'm now an animator and I love going to work!   Who doesn't like getting paid to do what they love to do? Sounds cheezy but great things will come if you are true to yourself and pursue yours dreams and passions.

Animating at THQ

I've been a few months behind on posting this but....
I'm now an animator at THQ!  Oh what heavenly gloooory!
This a staged picture of me acting casually, pretending to read a magazine.  *It's not even a magazine, its an egg carton.

Ahhhh and finally!  I moved into my own apartment and it's 4 minutes walking distance to Sony Imageworks(where I hope to be one day).    :)

Pixel Liberation Front: Last Day

I never got around to posting this picture for a long long time, but this is a  picture of me and Ariel Lee in front of PLF on our last day.  I really appreciated my time there at PLF.  Everyone was really nice and Duane Floch and Simon Halpern kept the laughs comin'.  I miss everyone at PLF.  I wish I grabbed everyone's contact email to KIT.  Best of luck to you all.

Playstation and Blizzard/Activision Mixer (West LA)

I've been really behind so just playing catch up with my post here are some photos from the mixers I attended a few months ago.

It's a shirt compressed to look like a PS3 controller.  All of my other pictures came out dark. (Playstation Mixer)

The pictures below are from the Blizzard/Activision Mixer I attended with some friends.  We were scanned by a really high tech scanner.   TECHNOLOGIEZZZ  Really cool.

Walt Disney Animation Studios

At CTNX I attended the Making of Prep and Landing and got to see the character design and learn more about the movie and it's characters.   Later that night we were invited to see Prep and Landing: Naughty VS Nice at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Prior to seeing Prep and Landing: Naughty VS Nice we got to see other shorts.   My favorite was "Lorenzo" which was about a Cat and his tail that had a mind of it's own(became it's own person).   It was really raw/edgy and visually appealing.  I'm really looking forward for it to come out to the general public.   Watching it once was not enough.

I'm really excited about the new movie Disney movie called , "Wreck It Ralph."  From what I hear, it's going to be very different from what Disney is known for.  It's based on the villian/boss of a game but we get to see his side of the story.

Throughout the screening.   Disney gave out prizes and I got a cool Winnie the Pooh mug which I will put to good use.  They say up to 60% of the human body is water.  For my body it's more like 60% of it is caffeine.

Our host was Darrin Butter who was such a comedian!    Thank you Disney Staff, I really enjoyed the screening.

Warner Bros Studio Tour

I went on a studio tour with 6 other Animation Mentor students/alumni.  Warner Bros. Studio is massive and so many shows are filmed and made there.   My favorite part of the tour was a letter that Bruce Lee wrote to one of the executives of Warner Bros.   for the movie "Enter the Dragon."  He wrote, " I want to make the fuckinest best action movie ......"  Not 100% sure I'm quoting him right but the letter was a very genuine Bruce Lee.  Ahh and I have a green screen Harry Potter shot that I'll have to upload later.

CTN Week in Sunny Southern California...in the rain

CTNX was really inspiring.  I finally got to meet one of my mentors from Animation Mentor, Boola Robello and as awesome in person as he is through the Animation Mentor online program.  This was my first time at CTNX and unfortunately missed seeing Eric Goldberg and Andreas Deja in person.  But I was still able to see and learn alot from other artists from the panels and booths.  The best part I'd say was being able to meet so many like-minded individuals with the same passions and goals.  I highly recommend going if you can and buying the 3 day pass as there are alot of panels, screenings, and people to meet.

Digital Domain talks about Real Steel: Event at Esacape Studios

Thanks to everyone that put this together at Escape Studios and Digital Domain for the awesome presentation tonight.  I think this was the first one ever done at Escape Studios.  It was really interesting to hear about the making of Real Steel.  There were prizes given away and even an online class given away by Escape Studios. You can count me in for the next event.

*I'm a little behind but will post some pics from the Playstation and Activision Blizzard Mixers I attended soon.

AnimationNation's event with Stephen Silver

I attended Animationnation night with guest speaker Stephen Silver, character designer.  Some memorable quotes of the night were:

"Excellence is never granted to man but only as the reward of Labor,"

"Don't fall back, fall forward" -don't get a back up degree first but just go directly for what you want.

"Don't be competitive, be creative." - your creativity will outshine the competition and always be on top.

The 4 P's

If You Want to Succeed:
-Listen, learn and read other's experiences
-set goals-daily goals
-keep eyes and ears open for opportunities
-stay on course, don't quit
-Don't listen to cynics, they will take you down
-Don't be afraid to fail.  You must take risk to be successful.

Stephen Silver spoke about how J.K. Rowling, author of Harry Potter Books was rejected almost 300 times before her book was published.

This industry is really rough and unstable so it is discouraging when getting a rejection letter but you have to keep going, be patient, practice, be passionate, network, look for opportunities, and visualize yourself being there and eventually you'll get there.

About Stephen Silver
"An artist who needs no introduction. We're happy to host one of the most outstanding and influential character designers in the animation industry this coming AN Night.

Stephen Silver has been at the vanguard of what it means to develop an Independent Economy in animation. Not only is he successful at the highest levels within the studio scene, he's carved an extraordinary name for himself through his personal art and creative projects over the years. From self publishing to online classes to ebooks to plush toys, Stephen has taken his amazing talents to places we all dream about and strive to emulate.

Check out his website and see just how incredible a talent he is.

This is a truly unique opportunity to meet and interact with an industry legend."- AnimationNation.com

Mike Nguyen's "Acting Through the Pencil" class

Signed drawing from Mike Nguyen!!

I attended a 2 part class "Acting Through the Pencil" with Mike Nguyen who is a Disney Veteran and Supervising Animator of the classic movie "The Iron Giant."  This is a great class for beginners as well as professionals.  It was very inspiring and really really put the way I animate into perspective.

Here are some links to Mike Nguyen's classes and to his upcoming movie "My Little World."
